About Bilaspur

Bilaspur city is located in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, situated 111 km north of state capital, Raipur. It is the second- largest city in the state. Chhattisgarh high court at Bilaspur privileges it to host the name ‘Nyaydhani’ (as law capital) of the state. Bilaspur is known for its aromatic doobraj rice, handloom woven colorful soft kosa silk saris and varied and colorful culture. Places of interest in and around Bilaspur include: Amarkantak, Chaitoorgarh, Ratanpur, Giraudhpuri, Sirpur, Talaganv, Pali, Janjgir, Kharod, Sheorinarayan, Sirpur, Bhoramdev, Rajim, Shri Aiyyappa Mandir, Narmada River, Kanan pendari, Mungeli, Mahamaya Temple, Khudiya dam, Lormi and Khutaghat dam and Rani Sati Temple.

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV) is a Central University of India, established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly called Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an act of the State Legislative Assembly, was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983. GGV is an active member of Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. Situated in a socially and economically challenged area, the University is appropriately named to honor the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas, Who championed the cause of the downtrodden and waged a relentless struggle against all forms of social evils and injustices prevailing in the society. Satguru Ghasidas was a great saint, successor of the Satnami sect of Chhattisgarh, migrated from Narnaul, Haryana. Satguru Ghasidas was born on 18th  December, 1781.

 

Guru Ghasidas University is a lush green campus spread over an area of 875 acres (3.54 km2), five kilometer from the main Bilaspur town. River arpa, the lifeline of Bilaspur, runs parallel to the university campus. The university covers almost the entire spectrum of the higher education requirements of the local people. It has 32 University Teaching Department in its campus and is structured into 9 schools.
